24 DIVISION CONDUCTED A FIRE FIGHTING LECTURE AND A REHEARSAL

Training and awareness of fire brakes and fire fighting are most valuable to respond more efficiently, reducing the property damage caused by fires. It is very much important for soldiers too.

Hence, 24 Division organized a fire fighting lecture and a rehearsal to SAR & Riot Control Teams at Div premises in collaboration with the Fire Brigade - Ampara. The officers and staff of Fire Brigade conducted the programme and 10 officers and 80 Other Ranks attended for the lecture and rehearsal. Further, different types of fire extinguishers were used for the rehearsal.

24 DIVISION CELEBRATES "THAI PONGAL" IN AMPARA

"Pongal" is also called “Thai Pongal” and is a harvest festival celebrated by the Hindus to honour the Sun God (Surya) for blessing the harvest. It is a four-day festival and usually celebrated from January 14 to January 17 every year. Prayer rituals called Pujas are conducted in kovils and then the first harvested grains harvested recently from their fields are cooked with fresh milk in a clay pot. Mamangam Easwara Temple is one of the oldest temples that is believed to be belonging to the periods of 2nd to 3rd Century AD. It is believed to be built at the exact spot where "Raman" performed his prayers to Lord Siva. According to the myth, the lump of rice that Raman placed to perform prayers turned into a lingam and therefore, it is called Mamangam Easwara Temple. According to history, the prayer were made when Raman visited Sri Lanka while searching for his wife Seetha.

22 DIVISION ASSISTS MEDICAL CLINIC IN MOLLIPOTHANA

The troops of 22 Division with 306 B1 Lions Club of Pamunugama Jaela, jointly organized a medical clinic at Sri Agraboodi Viharaya in Mollipothana, TRINCOMALEE on Saturday (13). Over 200 patients received medical consultations and 85 pairs of spectacles were distributed free of charge during this clinic.

The medical clinic consisted of a cardiology clinic, skin clinic, eye clinic, and ENT clinic. 100 School children and 20 Civilians were provided school accessories and packets of dry rations respectively.

23 SLSR CLAIMS CHAMPIONSHIP IN THE INTER BATTALION BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT - 24 DIVISION

23 Battalion of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment clinched the victory and 241 Brigade became the Runners-up in the Inter Battalion Basketball Tournament - 2018 organized by 24 Division held at Basketball Court of Commando Training School Ampara on 9 and 10 January 2018.

It was organized under the directions of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 24 Division Major General Mahinda Mudalige according to the Division’s Sports Calendar 2018.

THE TROOPS OF 221 BRIGADE DONATED SCHOOL ITEMS

A donation programme of school items organized by the troops of 221 Brigade was successfully held at the Auditorium of Morawewa Yaya 06 School on 09 January 2018. This community-oriented empowering programme was an initiative aimed at enhancing education of children of the less privileged schools of Divisional Secretariat Morawewa by donating various necessities to the needy students and to the institutions.
