  • AKURESSA HOSPITAL GETS NEW COVID-19 WARD

    In order to accommodate 75 more COVID-19 patients, 3 Gemunu Watch (3 GW) and Corps of Engineer Services troops under command to the 613 Infantry Brigade of 61 Infantry Division under the Security Forces – West established an Intermediate Care Centre (ICC) at Akuressa Hospital compound and formally vested it in hospital authorities on Saturday (29).

    In order to further reinforce ongoing community security arrangements of the Police against the spread of COVID-19 virus, the Army on the instructions of General Shavendra Silva, Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army has deployed Army Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs), Special Force Rider Teams and troops of the Army Drone Battalion, together with infantry soldiers in mostly crowded areas in the western province.

  • TROOPS READY ELPITIYA FACTORY BUILDING AS ONE MORE INTERMEDIATE CARE CENTRE

    Troops of the 613 Brigade and the 14 (V) Gemunu Watch initiated a project to improvise a Factory Building at Elpitiya area to serve as an Intermediate Care Centre (ICC) in the event of any surge of infectees of the virus.

  • SF- WEST DRIVES IN FULL SWING TO BACK THE COVID PREVENTION EFFORT

    To be in line with instructions given by General Shavendra Silva ,Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID 19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army , improvised ICCs were initiated within a few days under the close supervision of Major General Vikum Liyanage, Commander, Security Forces - west in order to provide a coordinated response to the 3rd wave of the COVID -19 pandemic and strengthening the capacity of the health care system by accommodating and isolating positive cases.

    Ferrying of stranded civilians on boats, road clearance work, evacuation of victims or threatened people from earthslip-prone areas, supply of immediate snacks and meal packets, transport of the affected to nearest relief centres, provision of first-aid or hospitalization assistance, etc are among major tasks being performed by 14 Gemunu Watch troops of the 613 Infantry Brigade under the 61 Infantry Division in the flood-ravaged general areas of Elpitiya, Neluwa, Thawalama, Baddegama, Yakkalamulla, Nagoda and Niyagama since torrential rains hit the area on Wednesday (12) evening.
