Troops of 8 Gemunu Watch under command to the 61 Infantry Division jointly constructed a new home for a needy family in Pallebedda, Rathnapura in collaboration with the MTV/MBC, ‘Sirasa’ Media network through its ‘Sirasa Niwasa’ project on the directions given by General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army after the project sponsors sought the Army assistance in this regard.

On the Directions of the Commander security forces (West) Major General KWR de Abrew RSP RSP USP psc Hdmc , SFHQ (West) marked Sri Lanka’s 73rd independence day on Wednesday (4) to commemorate the independence with patriotism and sovereignty. The day’s programme began with hoisting of the national flag by Brigadier (Admin and Quartering) Brigadier T M Abeyrathne RSP Lsc, and the national anthem was sung at 0800 hrs. Two minutes silence was also observed to pay tribute to the forefathers of the land of their glorious feat.

Maj Gen D G Hewage RSP assumed duties as the 14th General Officer Commanding of 61 Infantry Division on 15 January 2021. The incoming General Officer Commanding on arrival at the camp premises was greeted to a Guard Turnout at the entrance. Thereafter the General Officer Commanding was invited to receive the salute in the Guard of Honor at the parade ground.
