On the directions of Major General Vikum Liyanage, Commander, Security Forces – West, Major General Dammi Hewage, General Officer Commanding, 61 Division, together with Commander 613 Brigade and Commanding Officer 14 (V) Gemunu Watch on Monday (17) visited the Meepe Rural Hopital in Habaraduwa where COVID-19 patients remain warded.

To be in line with instructions given by General Shavendra Silva ,Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID 19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army , improvised ICCs were initiated within a few days under the close supervision of Major General Vikum Liyanage, Commander, Security Forces - west in order to provide a coordinated response to the 3rd wave of the COVID -19 pandemic and strengthening the capacity of the health care system by accommodating and isolating positive cases.

Ferrying of stranded civilians on boats, road clearance work, evacuation of victims or threatened people from earthslip-prone areas, supply of immediate snacks and meal packets, transport of the affected to nearest relief centres, provision of first-aid or hospitalization assistance, etc are among major tasks being performed by 14 Gemunu Watch troops of the 613 Infantry Brigade under the 61 Infantry Division in the flood-ravaged general areas of Elpitiya, Neluwa, Thawalama, Baddegama, Yakkalamulla, Nagoda and Niyagama since torrential rains hit the area on Wednesday (12) evening.

With the objective of educating Officers and Other Ranks on the 'Basic utilization of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) & its Related Applications'; a two-day workshop was organized during 08 & 09 April 2021 at the Security Force Headquarters-West. 55 Officers and 25 Other Ranks from under command formations of SFHQ - West, SFHQ -Central and 53 Inf Division participated in the workshop.

Sri Lanka Army in its long journey added another milestone to its annals of history by releasing its 'Capstone Doctrine’. Accordingly, as per the directions given by the Army Training Command (ARTRAC) and with the supervision of the Commander Security Forces (West) Major General K W R de Abrew RWP RSP USP psc Hdmc, a lecture on the 'Sri Lanka Army Capstone Doctrine' complied by the Army Training Command (ARTRAC) was conducted at the RHQ SLLI auditorium at Panagoda on Friday (26).

Troops of 8 Gemunu Watch under command to the 61 Infantry Division and troops of 1 Engineer service Regiment jointly constructed a new home for a needy family in Kalatuwawa Rathnapura in collaboration with the MTV/MBC, ‘Sirasa’ Media network through its ‘Sirasa Niwasa’ project on the directions given by General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army after the project sponsors sought the Army assistance in this regard.

A group of about 290 troops of 14 Division and 61 Division offered their assistance to hospitals in Colombo,Gampaha,Kurunegala, Puttalam,Ratnapura,kegalle,Kalutara,galle and matara Districts for the management of skeletal health services after sections of the minor staff went on strike on trade union issues on Wednesday (24) February 2021.
