The Commander Security Forces (East) attended the event in response to an invitation made by the Chief Incumbent of Dambana, Gurukumbura Adiwasi Janauruma Viharaya, Ven. Galporuyaya Pradeepawansa Thero to the Commander of the Army.

Being parallel with the Island wide religious observances conducted under the directions of Commander of the Army, troops of Security Force Headquarters East during a Kapruk Pooja and a special Bodhi Pooja that concluded on January 14, 2020 at Polonnaruwa Somawathiya Pagoda premises invoked blessings on the Sri Lankans / Security Forces for the New Year and the victims of the natural disasters / unexpected catastrophes reported in Sri Lanka and around the world including the recent terrible wildfires occurred in Australia. Accordingly, the under command formations of the Security Forces (East) also conducted similar events in the dawn of the New Year.
