The Commander, Security Force - East, Major General Chinthaka Gamage, with an illustrious military career spanning 34 years officially relinquished the office as the 20th Commander Security Force (East) on 24 January 2021 amidst traditional military formalities being accomplished at the Security Force Headquarters (East) premises, Welikanda. A series of formalities held at Security Force Headquarters-East today (24) in connection with the relinquishment of the appointment commenced with reviewing of the Guard Turnout, accorded to the outgoing Commander on arrival at the venue. The outgoing Commander, Security Force (East) reviewed the Guard of Honour accorded to him by the troops of 15 Regiment of Sri Lanka Light Infantry in keeping with military traditions.

On the directives of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) appointed under the Secretary of Defence on ‘Archaeological Heritage Management in the Eastern Province’ a conference was held to discuss matters pertaining to security issues at Archaeological Sites in Eastern Province on Monday (23) at the Security Force Headquarters (East). Director General of Archaeology Dr. Senarath Bandara Dissanayake, Commander Security Force (East) Major General Chinthaka Gamage, Director General, Civil Security Department Rear Admiral (Rtd) Ananda Peiris, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police, Eastern Range Mr. Nilantha Jayawardhana, GOCs of 22, 23 and 24 Infantry Divisions, DIGs of Ampara and Trincomalee Districts, representatives of Department of Archaeology, Wildlife Department and Forest Department were present at the meeting.

The Security Force Headquarters (East) launched a tree planting programme as one more phase of the ‘Thuru Mithuru Nawa Ratak’ project, introduced by the Commander of the Army in order to increase national forest cover and beautify the country. This programme was conducted covering 22, 23, 24 Divisions and Forward Maintenance Area (East) on Friday (13) with the guidance of the Commander Security Force (East).
