Due to the torrential rain that started with the continuous southwest monsoon rains, Udugampitiya area under 171 Kerawalapitiya Gramasewa Division of Wattala Regional Secretariat under 141 infantry brigade were flooded and about 8 families living there were displaced.

Due to the heavy rains and floods that affected the Matara district since October 02, troops of 9th Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment,2(V)Gamunu Watch,3(V) Gamunu Watch of 613 infantry brigade belongs to 61 infantry division under Security Forces Headquarters (West)joined hands with the Divisional Secretariat, Disaster Management Center, Police and Navy officials for evacuation, relief and relocation of stranded people who were affected by floods.

Due to the recent heavy rains in the Matara District, Thihagoda and Malimbada Divisional Secretariat areas were heavily affected due to floods on 04 October 2023. However, the Army troops, along with various government agencies, including District Secretariat, Disaster Management Centre, have been working effortlessly since 02 October 2023 to provide humanitarian assistance to relief and restore civil life in the affected areas.
