In the morning hours on 08 August 2023, a devastating fire broke out at the Global Care Products Company (Pvt) Ltd factory in Kandana. The fire caused significant damage to the complex, and immediate action was required to control the situation. Thereby, as per the directions of the Commander of the Army as well as guidance given by the Commander Security Forces (West), the troops of the 8 Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry of 141 Infantry Brigade and 2 (v) Sri Lanka Army Service Corps, under the command of the Security Forces (West), swiftly responded and provided their fullest support.

A sudden fire broke out at the Kanadola Garbage Dump in the general area of Mudduwa East, Ratnapura, around midnight on 06 August 2023. This incident caused panic and concern among the local community, as the fire posed a threat to both the environment and public safety. In response to this emergency, the Municipal Commissioner of Ratnapura and the Assistant Director of the Disaster Management Center in Ratnapura requested the assistance of the Sri Lankan Army.
