  • BRIGADIER WMLS DAYAWANSA ASSUMES DUTIES AS DEPUTY GENERAL OFFICER COMMANDING OF 61 INFANTRY DIVISION

    Brigadier WMLS Dayawansa officially commenced his role as the Deputy General Officer Commanding of the 61 Infantry Division at the Division Headquarters in Boossa on 18 January 2024.

    The Security Forces (West) promptly dispatched troops to government hospitals impacted by a 24 hours symbolic strike organized by health sector trade unions across the island On 16 January 2024. Military units were swiftly positioned at hospitals including Balangoda, Eheliyagoda, Kegalle, Beruwala, Kalutara, Panadura, Kamburupitiya, Matara Karapitiya, and Udugama. The coordination of this response was overseen by the 61 Infantry Division.

  • CONTRIBUTION OF 14 INFANTRY DIVISION TROOPS IN MAINTAINING ESSENTIAL HEALTH SERVICES

    On 16 January 2024 a symbolic 24-hour strike, organized by health sector trade unions, prompted the deployment of troops from the 14 Infantry Division to hospitals impacted by the strike. The troops, including those from the Sri Lanka Volunteer Force, Regimental Centre, Regimental Centre of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, 21 Battalion of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, 16 Battalion of Gajaba Regiment, 14 Battalion of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, 1 Battalian of Sri Lanka Womens Corps, 1 Battalion of Sri Lanka National Guard, and 2(V) Battalion of Sri Lanka Light Infantry, swiftly assisted in maintaining essential health services at National Hospital Colombo, Kalubovila Hospital, Base Hospital Colombo East, Meerigama Base Hospital, Warakapola Base Hospital, Awissawella Base Hospital, Kurunegala Teaching Hospital and Marawila Base Hospital. This operation was highly appreciated by the general public and staff of health services.

    On 11 January 2024, responding to a Ministry of Health request, the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, deployed troops from the Sri Lanka Army to government hospitals affected by an island-wide strike led by minor staff trade unions in the health sector. The mission aimed to ensure uninterrupted essential health services across the country.

    On 11 January 2024, a joint strike by health sector trade unions prompted the deployment of troops from the 14 Infantry Division to affected hospitals. The Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, initiated this response, guided by the Commander, Security Forces (West) Maj Gen SWM Fernando WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc and supervised by the General Officer Commanding 14 Infantry Division Maj Gen KAWNH Bandaranayake USP along with the respective Brigade Commanders of the 14 Infantry Division.

  • 16 BATTALION THE GAJABA REGIMENT TAKES LEAD IN DECISIVE JOINT OPERATION SAFEGUARDING LAKVIJAYA PLANT- NOROCHCHOLAI

    01 x 25 troops from the 16 Battalion the Gajaba Regiment, participated in a Joint Operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy on 2024.01.11. The operation was conducted with the guidance of Commander Security Force (West) and the supervision of the General Officer Commanding 14 Infantry Division.

  • 14 BATTALION OF VIJAYABAHU INFANTRY REGIMENT CELEBRATES 16th ANNIVERSARY

    14th Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment troops in Tripoli (Maradana) celebrated their 16th anniversary on 06th January 2024 with a series of events. At the same time, a dhamma sermon was held to remembrance of war heroes and alms giving was held for the monks at the camp premises.

  • 61 INFANTRY DIVISION EMBRACES POSITIVITY: REFRESHING MILITARY LIFE LECTURE INSPIRES SOLDIERS

    The lecture, themed "A Refreshing Military Life," conducted by Specialist Psychiatrist Brigadier RMM Monaragala USP, along with a team of lecturers from Sri Lanka Army Diretorate of Priventive Medicine and Mental Health on 10 January 2024 at 61 Infantry Division lecture hall. 08X169 Army personnel of the 61 Infantry Division participated for the program.

  • COMMANDER 613 INFANTRY BRIGADE ASSUMED OFFICE

    Colonel URIB Ranathunga RSP USP officially assumed command as the 9th Commander of the 613 Infantry Brigade at the Brigade Headquarters in Kamburupitiya on 4 January 2024. Thereby,the newly appointed commander was warmly welcomed the Brigade's staff,and greeted with a guard turnout by the troops of 3 (V) Gemunu Watch.
