  • ARMY TROOPS ASSIST IN CONTAINING BUSHFIRE AT KURAGALA FOREST RESERVE

    Under the direction of the General Officer Commanding, 61 Infantry Division, troops from the 18 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) were swiftly deployed to control a wildfire that broke out at the Kuragala Temple forest reserve. The fire, reported around 1500 hours on 3 June 2025, threatened the surrounding ecosystem and sacred premises. Responding promptly, the troops worked in coordination with local authorities and forest officials to prevent further spread and minimize damage. Their timely intervention played a crucial role in bringing the situation under control. The Sri Lanka Army continues to support national disaster response efforts, safeguarding both heritage sites and natural resources through rapid deployment and effective teamwork.

    On May 30, due to heavy winds, large tree branches had fallen near the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) and along Maitland Crescent, disrupting traffic on those roads. Responding swiftly, troops from the 14 Battalion of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment were deployed to remove the fallen trees and restore normal vehical movement.

  • 8 SLLI Completes Battalion Training Course

    The 8th Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry successfully completed the Battalion Training Course at the Infantry Battalion Training School in Puttalam on 17 March 2025 to 20 May 2025 with the participation of 12 Officers and 323 Other rankers with high average pass. The event was graced by Major General KDML Samaradiwakara RWP RSP ndc psc, the General Officer Commanding of the 57 Infantry Division, as the Chief Guest and delivered the closing remarks.

  • KAMBURUGAMUWA SCHOOLBOY SAVED FROM SUICIDE BY ARMY TROOPS IN MATARA

    On May 19, 2025, at around 3:00 PM, a student from Kamburugamuwa, in school uniform, attempted suicide by jumping off the Mahanama Bridge into the Nilwala River in Matara. After being informed by the civilians that he was clinging to the bridge, 02x05 troops of the 3 (V) Gemunu Watch immediately responded with the help of a boat and rescued the child without allowing him to be swept away. He was safely handed over to his parents via the Matara Police Station.
