  • WEST TROOPS ASSIST IN CONTAINING FOREST FIRES IN KOSKALE – OPATHA AND GALDOLA

    On 22nd August 2023, a devastating fire broke out in the Koskale - Opatha forest area, posing a severe threat to the environment and nearby areas. In response, 611 Infantry Brigade swiftly dispatched around 60 troops from the 8 Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment to collaborate with the police in extinguishing the fire and preventing further damage.

Jayamanna RWP who performed duties as the General Officer Commanding of 14 Infantry Division.

  • WEST TROOPS ASSIST IN EXTINGUISHING THE MAJOR FIRE AT HOMAGAMA INDUSTRIAL ESTATE

    At around evening hours on 17 August 2023, the Water Care Technology Chemical factory in the Homagama Industrial Estate was engulfed in a major fire, prompting the Army to step in and assist the firefighters in controlling the blaze.

  • 611 BRIGADE TROOPS DOUSING THE BUSH FIRE RAJAWAKA FOREST RESERVE IN THE KONGAHAMANKADA, KALTHOTA

    On 17 August 2023, the 8 Battalion Gemunu Watch troops of 611 Infantry Brigade under 61 Infantry Division of Security Forces (West) quickly responded to a request from the Divisional Secretariat- Kalthota to douse a bush fire that had been spreading rapidly in the Rajawaka Forest Reserve in the Kongahamankada, Kalthota area.

  • WEST SOLDIERS DOUSE A FOREST FIRE IN KERAGALA DANAWKANDA

    One officer and 25 Other Ranks from 8 Battalion of Sri Lanka Light Infantry under 141 Infantry Brigade of Security Forces (West) dedicated in dousing a forest fire that broke out in the Danawkanda, Keragala in general area Dompe, on 14 August 2023. Their quick response and effective containment strategy successfully prevented the fire from spreading further and causing more damage.

  • WEST TROOPS PARTICIPATE IN A BLOOD DONATION CAMPAIGN

    The Angoda Hirukirana Social Care Foundation has organized a blood donation campaign for 21 times since 2003 in order to commemorate the 31st anniversary of the late Lieutenant General Denzil Kobbekaduwa and the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the last humanitarian operation. The campaign was held at Somadevi Girls' College Kotikawatta on 13 August 2023.

  • 144 INFANTRY BRIGADE TROOPS LISTEN TO AN INVALUABLE LECTURE

    The 144 Infantry Brigade of Security Forces (West) took a proactive approach to enhance the knowledge and well-being of its troops by organizing a lecture on August 10, 2023. The lecture, which was held at the 2 (v) Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry lecture hall, Kelanimulla, was conducted by Dr. J.M. Nilam, the chief commissioner of St. John's Ambulance – Kandy.

    The West troops, along with the Fire Brigade and local authorities, swiftly responded to a bushfire that erupted at Thabbowa Reserve in the Karuwalagaswewa area on the evening of 11 August 2023. The District Forest Officer provided information about the incident, which resulted in the destruction of approximately 200 acres of land.
